Really called Bear 480
Brown bear Β· Katmai National Park, Alaska
Lives in Bear Ridge
The elder statesman. Four-time Fat Bear champion, old, worn down, missing teeth, and still the most patient fisherman on the river. He sits in one spot and lets the salmon come to him.
What they do
Sits motionless in his favourite fishing seat and scoops fish as they pass.
Ancient, patient, unbothered. Has outlasted everyone by refusing to hurry.
Lore
- β Four Fat Bear Week titles, more than any other bear
- β He fishes from a seated position because age and worn teeth make chasing salmon impractical
- β Fans track his return every season, because at his age each one might be the last
