🥽 Frida

Dog (Labrador Retriever) · Mexico City, Mexico

Lives in Legends Garden

Frida was a yellow Labrador born 12 April 2009 who worked search and rescue for the Mexican Navy in custom goggles, harness and neoprene boots. Across 55 deployments in Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador and Guatemala the Navy credits her with finding 12 people alive and recovering the remains of 43 more. Photographs of her working the rubble after the 19 September 2017 Mexico City earthquake turned her into a national symbol, reproduced in murals, comics and a postage stamp. She retired on 25 June 2019, trained younger dogs until the end, and died on 15 November 2022.

What they do

Braces both front paws, throws her head back and barks twice — her trained signal that someone is under the rubble. Three frames: head low sniffing, head thrown back mid-bark, head level again with tail up..

All business in the goggles. Off duty, a Labrador who wanted the ball and nothing else.

Helping the real one

No verified way to support this animal exists.

We will not invent one.

Frida served the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), a state armed force that does not take public donations, and no memorial fund was established. There is no honest support route.
