🐩 Bunny
Dog (Sheepadoodle) · Tacoma, Washington, USA
Lives in The Meme House
Bunny is a sheepadoodle born around August 2019 whose owner, artist Alexis Devine, taught her to press recordable soundboard buttons laid out on hexagonal floor mats. Clips of her stringing words together spread across TikTok from 2020 and the account passed 8 million followers and 210 million likes. One sequence — 'mad, ouch' followed by 'stranger, paw' — led Devine to find a thorn in Bunny's foot. She is enrolled in TheyCanTalk, a study run out of UC San Diego's Comparative Cognition Lab that monitors her button presses on camera, and Devine published a memoir about her, I Am Bunny, in 2024.
What they do
Lifts one front paw high, stamps it down on a big round floor button, then snaps her head up to stare at her human waiting for an answer. Three frames: paw raised, paw pressed flat on the button, head up and ears lifted..
Opinionated and a bit of a lawyer. She will argue with you in four words and win.
Lore
- ★Her soundboard grew to around 92 recorded words, including abstract ones like 'love', 'mad' and 'stranger'.
- ★Devine was inspired by speech pathologist Christina Hunger, who had already taught her dog Stella to use buttons.
- ★Bunny is a formal research subject, not just a video: cameras in the living room feed the TheyCanTalk study at UC San Diego.
- ★She was the smallest puppy in her litter when Devine took her home at eight weeks old.
Helping the real one
No verified way to support this animal exists.
We will not invent one.
There is no charity attached to Bunny. Support runs through her own TikTok and Instagram accounts and Devine's 2024 book I Am Bunny. Her social handles could not be independently verified by fetch (TikTok returned a loading stub, and the domain whataboutbunny.com has been taken over by an unrelated gambling site), so no links are listed here.
