Osito is an eight-year-old rescue dog belonging to Jorge Rangel, a 50-year-old Mexico City delivery worker who adopted him during a hard stretch of his life and has taken him along on his rounds for two years. On 18 June 2026 the pair rolled up to Mexico's World Cup opener against South Korea, Osito riding in the cargo basket in a green Mexico jersey, a cap and sunglasses. Within hours he was on international broadcasts and all over social media, and fans adopted him as the tournament's unofficial mascot. Rangel's line about him: 'More than a dog, he's my daily companion.'
