Lives in Legends Garden
Stubbs was a part-Manx ginger tomcat born in Talkeetna, Alaska on 12 April 1997 who held the honorary title of mayor from that July until his death, a joke the town of about 900 people committed to for twenty years. Talkeetna is a historic district with no actual mayor, so his office was a spot on the counter of Nagley's General Store, where 30 to 40 tourists a day came to meet him. He survived a dog attack on 31 August 2013 that punctured a lung and fractured his sternum, and died in his sleep on 21 July 2017 aged 20.
What they do
Leans down off a wooden shop counter to lap catnip water out of a wine glass, sits back up and licks his chops..
A shop cat with a title, a drinking glass and absolutely no responsibilities.
Lore
- β He held the honorary title from 18 July 1997 to 21 July 2017, almost exactly twenty years.
- β Talkeetna has no actual mayor of any species, so his role was purely ceremonial; the write-in election story is local legend rather than record.
- β He drew 30 to 40 tourists a day to Nagley's General Store.
- β Every afternoon he visited a nearby restaurant and drank water spiked with catnip out of a wine or margarita glass.
