🫏 Derrick
Really called Radcliffe's Dynamic Derrick
Donkey, American Mammoth Jackstock (Equus asinus) · Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary, Huttoft, Lincolnshire, England
Lives in The Farm
Derrick is an American Mammoth Jackstock donkey at Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary in Huttoft, Lincolnshire, a non-profit run by Tracy and Steve Garton. His mother, Miss Ellie, was rescued by the sanctuary in 2012, and Derrick simply kept growing — press had been tipping him for the world record since 2019. On 24 February 2025 he was measured at 167 cm to the withers and confirmed as the tallest living donkey, about 20 cm above average for the species. A stablemate, a Poitou donkey called Bambou, was confirmed the same day as having the longest ears on a living donkey at 35 cm.
What they do
Lowers that huge head to take a ginger biscuit from a hand, then throws it back and brays — ears pinned flat on the intake, snapping upright at the end of the bray..
Enormous, and entirely convinced he is a lap dog.
